Collage

We have made some eye catching pieces of art. This is the collage Chloe and I made. The collage is based around our topic for this term which is plastic. We had to include the beach, the ocean, some mountains and the sky. We had to draw sea creatures, cut them out, colour them in with pastel and then we glued them on. We finally put little ripped up bits of plastic to resemble the plastic that always ends up on our beaches. It shows that we use too much plastic and we should stop because it harms marine life and creatures that live on the land.

I think that we could use some different coloured sea animals so they don't blend in as much as they do now. I like the way how the art is really bright so the animals catch everyone's eyes.

plastic bin liners

In room five we have learned about plastic and how it harms land and marine animals. We also learned about how many bin liners we use in our class. We decided that we have to do something about it. So we did some writing about it and sent it to our principal, Mrs Wallace. Hope you enjoy the writing.

10th September 2018

Dear Mrs Wallace,

We have found out that we use too many plastic bags for bin liners in the school. I’m sure we don’t need as many plastic bags as we use each day in every class. But if you don’t think so, then here are three good reasons why I don’t think we need to use as many plastic bags as we do.

Firstly, we only put dry rubbish in the bins. It's not going to stain the bin because the rubbish is dry. We mostly put paper, dry materials and fabrics in there. It won’t leak if it even has the smallest hole in it because it’s dry, unlike other things like unfinished yogurt and banana peels.

Secondly, do you know how many plastic bags we use in a year? We use two thousand a year, five hundred a term, fifty a week and ten a day. That is a lot of bags to go through. That is also a lot of money to go through. We could use that money to buy school resources like books and other things that the school needs. It’s like flushing money down the toilet.

Finally, not using so many plastic bags would be better for the environment. If a storm came and all the plastic in the landfill blew away then the plastic won’t just cause land pollution, it will also cause pollution in the ocean and will harm marine life. It can also harm birds that are either catching fish or that are flying through the sky and get caught in the plastic.

In conclusion, I think the worst part about using so many plastic bags is wasting the money that the school could use to buy resources for the school classes. I also think the environment pollution is really bad too. If we don’t do something about it, we might make the animals in the sea die.

Yours sincerely,

Rawiri.

On the 4th of September El Gregoe the magician  ventriloquist came to our school to teach us about bullying and what we can do to make people stop it. He said treat people how you want to be treated and to use your WITS. The W in WITS stands for Walk away, the I stands for Ignore, the T stands for Talk (as in talk to someone) and the S stands for Stop. The picture below the writing is a Macaw and the one below that is a Eclectus parrot. There was so many birds there names won't even fit on this page. My favorite bird is the macaw witch has a friend called Ritche the macaw. I also like the part were El Gregoe made Jake levitate and when he had three rags and then squeezed them together then made popcorn appear (popcorn is a bird as well).
